The Family Portraits series lies at the intersection of art history and family lore. My family is Belgian-American.  I digitally collage (no AI) family photos and copyright free images into works of the Flemish masters--in this case Jacques Jordaens' Portrait of Magdalena de Cuyper. The collage is printed onto cotton fabric, layered, stitched and embellished.

Mom loved the Detroit Tigers, partying, and her dogs.  She also struggled with undiagnosed bi-polar disorder into her eighties.

Through this series, I explore themes of memory, legacy, mental illness, disfunction, substance abuse, grief, and love. Each Family Portrait is embellished with lace. Machine quilted.
