Contact The Artist About This Artwork

Nana (Rosella Van Belle) was the Martha Stewart of her day--an extraordinary seamstress, needleworker, cook, and gardener. Her Christmas Eve celebrations were a grandchild's dream.

This portrait is part of a series that lies at the intersection of art and family history. My family is Belgian-American.  Family photos are digitally collaged (no AI) into works of the Flemish masters. Family Portraits  explore themes of memory, legacy, mental illness, disfunction, grief and love.  Embellished with found lace, and items from her sewing box.

Digital collage, printed on cotton, layered and hand-stitched with embellishments.
